Hemanga Biswas’s popular songs presented

Timeless people’s songs composed by legendary musician Hemanga Biswas were presented at TSC at University of Dhaka on Monday marking 99th birth anniversary of the musician, which falls on December 14.

Different cultural organisations in the country including Wrishijo Shilpigoshthi, Satyen Sen Shilpi Goshthi, Bibartan Sankritik Kendra and Kranti Shilpigosthi in the programme organised by Kranti. 

Director General of Bangla academy Shamsuzzaman Khan was the chief guest of the programme, which included music and discussion.

The discussants highlighted the impact of awareness growing Hemanga Biswas’ people’s songs in different movements in Bangladesh and India. They also evaluated the quality of the music created by Biswas based on the essence of folk music. For which his songs can touch the heart of the common mass and can motivate them towards the strong messages delivered in lyrics, the discussants observed.

The speakers also hoped that the 100th birth anniversary of Hemanga Biswas will be observed colourfully simultaneously in Dhaka and Habiganj, the birth place of Hemanga Biswas.

Following the discussion Biswas’ popular people’s songs were presented. Artistes of Kranti Shilpigosthi presented songs such as Azadi hoini ajo tor nabobandhan and Hurang tang tang dhanuke jore de tan along and Amra korbo joy, a translated version of We shall overcome.

Ai samadhi pore joto pran and Nayer badam uraiya de were rendered by the artistes of Wrishijo Shilpigoshthi while singers of Satyen Sen Shilpi Goshthi presented Ora amader gaan gaite dey na and Amra milechi ajike.

Besides, Bibartan Sankritik Kendra presented songs of Hemanga Biswas in chorus.  The programme was ended with staging of a play titled Dhumrajal by the drama section of Kranti Shilpigosthi.
