Four movies to hit big screen in EidAdmin
Shakib-Apu duo dominates market
Following a business loss in the last Eid Ul Fitr, producers made less than 10 movies to be released in the upcoming Eid Ul Azha. Considering the fact, maybe for the first time in the near past, Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association kept the ‘door open’ for all for movies release in Eid although earlier it used to select movies for Eid releases out of many options.
Finally, producers of four movies — Boss Number One, King Khan, Priya Amar Jaan and Chhotto Sangsar — decided to release their big-budget movies for Eid Ul Azha set against the backdrop of ever decreasing movie market. Considering a possible loss, producer of Adorer Jamai withdrew at the last moment.
The sources confirmed that the producers of these romantic action movies have basically targeted the cinemas mostly outside Dhaka for their business. To avoid any possible risk, all the producers have made less than 50 prints for each movies, said the sources.
When addressed Masud Parvez, president of Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association, rather accused censor board for the slam trade in the movie industry. ‘Due to “wired” mindset of the censor board members, diversity in the industry has been lost. Which is why the number of movies is ever decreasing and even these stereotypical romantic action movies are not doing good business,’ Masud Parvez told New Age.
‘Earlier, we had to face problem selecting movies from many options,’ he added.
Censor board members and film connoisseurs, on the other hand, addressed their zero tolerance towards obscene and graphics movies the reason behind such situation. ‘The current situation indicates that the industry at present is going through scarcity of talented people, which is why diverse quality movies are not coming out to attract viewers’ a member of Bangladesh Film Censor Board told New Age.
‘The industry is now based on only one hero [Shakib Khan]. How much can he serve alone?’ owner of a popular cinema in Dhaka, asked.
This Eid release is not exception to the trend. Popular Dhaliwood duo Shakib Khan-Apu Biswas plays the central roles in three out of four movies to be released. So, it is assumed that a competition is likely between these three romantic action movies-- Boss Number One, King Khan and Priya Amar Jaan—starred by Shakib-Apu to grab the market.
Villain-turned hero Dipjol plays the central character in Chhotto Sangsar, directed by Montazur Rahman Akbar, which follows the stereotypical storyline of the Dhaliwood movies these days—struggle of a outlaw person for coming back to normal life in the faulty social milieu.
Booking agent sources confirmed that facing tremendous pressure the hall booking for Chhotto Sangsar has been finally confirmed. But, the calculation for the two producers of the movies—King Khan and Priya Amar Jaan— to grab the market changed at the sudden news of releasing another big budget movie Boss Number One featuring the same due.
So, nothing can be predicted which movie wins the race to hit the market. Concerned people believe a huge competition will be found between King Khan and Boss Number One.
They don’t even keep Priya Amar Jaan out of the race, since such movies have popularity in district towns.
