Bijoy Sarker’s birth anniv today

The 112th birth anniversary of the legendary bard  Bijoy Sarker will be observed today at his native village home Dumdi in Narail sadar upazila.
Charon Kabi Bijoy Sarker Foundation, the district administration and birth celebration committee-2014 have jointly organised a daylong programme to mark the birth day of the Ekushey Padak winning bard.
Different socio-cultural organisations would celebrate his birth anniversary in the region.
The daylong celebrations will begin with placing of floral wreaths at Bijoy Sarker’s portrait.
In the evening a cultural show will be organised at Bijoy Sarker Mancha.  Followed by discussion, singers will present different genres of traditional songs composed by the bard such as jari gann and kabi gaan.
Lawmaker for Narail-2 constituency Sheikh Hafizur Rahman is expected to inaugurate the ceremony as chief guest. Abdul Gaffer Khan, deputy commissioner of Narail, who is also the president of Bijoy Sarker Foundation, will preside over the session.
Bijoy Sarker was born at village Dumdi under Narail sadar upazila on February 20, 1903.He wrote around 1,800 songs including jari, sari, kirtan,bhajan,bhatiali and bichhedi.
He also wrote many poems.
Leading a very simple life, the selfless bard spent most of his life completely engrossed in music.
The state honoured him with Ekushey Padak 28 years after his death on December 2, 1985.
