Police on Wednesday produced Rasel Bin Sattar, arrested in connection with the Al-Qaeda threat against Bangladesh, before a magistrate’s court in Tangail and sought 15 days’ remand for his interrogation. The court however approved 10-day remand.
Investigation officer Abdullah Al Tayebir said he was produced before the court after 3:00 pm, also sub inspector of Tangail Sadar police station.
Rasel, 21, was detained by RAB from a mess at Majipara in Tangail town early Tuesday on charge of spreading an audiovisual message reportedly of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Later, RAB handed him over to Tangail Sadar police station.
Deputy assistant director of RAB-12 Md Kamal Hossain filed two cases against Rasel.
One case was filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act on charge of publishing information and image on the net and the other was on charge of anti-state activities.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission officials on Monday said Jihadology.net released the reported al-Qaeda audio clip and the domain of the website was created on August 2010 in Arizona in USA and came into operation in September 2010.
The commission had asked the international gateway operators to block the website from Bangladesh and monitor the audio clip on the internet.
On Tuesday A RAB official said the audiovisual clip was released from US but Rasel was the first who received the clip in Bangladesh and propagated through social media.
The message titled ‘Bangladesh: Massacre Behind a Wall of Silence’ has created panic in the country as it has been largely circulated through social media on February 15.
