bKash donates Tk 30 lakh to Bishwo Shahitto KendraStaff Correspondent
bKash, a mobile phone-based payment switch, has donated fund for purchasing 34,000 books for the ‘book reading’ programme of Biswa Sahitya Kendra, a non-profit institution which promotes reading habits, enlightenment and progressive ideas among students and general public.
bKash chief executive officer Kamal Kadir handed over a cheque for Tk 30 lakh to Biswa Sahitya Kendra founding president Abdullah Abu Sayeed at a ceremony held in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sayeed said, ‘It’s easy to get fund for any other sector except books which we have been facing since the beginning of our programme. This is the highest fund we are going to
receive from bKash as a private sector donor.’
‘The donation from bKash will help run our book reading programme and I hope the support will continue in future,’ he said.
‘It’s a great opportunity for bKash to get attached with the Bishwo Shahitto Kandro’s book reading programme,’ Kadir said.
Officials of Biswa Sahitya Kendra and bKash also attended the ceremony.
