Bangladeshi photojournalist explores Saint Martin’s underwaterNew Age Online
A professional Bangladeshi photojournalist has started exploring the underwater diving in the Bay of Bengal coastal water in the Saint Martin’s island.
Sharif Sarwar, the lensman-turned-underwater photographer captured a lot of superb photographs of marine creatures beneath the Bay in December last year.
He has been braving all the dangers and adverse conditions over and under the sea.
‘The breath-taking beauty under the sea dumbfounded my senses,’ Sarwar said, adding, ‘I have tried to focus my lens to catch beauty and to present it before the viewers.’
In the photographs, the multi-coloured corals on the backdrop of bright blue water give a rare pleasure to the viewers. The corals are sometimes accompanied by various underwater fishes including star fish, jelly fish, lion fish, moray eel as well as other flora and fauna.
Earlier in June 2012, an exhibition of a total of 43 photographs taken by Sarwar during an intense underwater journey was held in the city’s Drik Gallery.
Sarwar, now a freelancer, shared his thoughts frankly while talking to New Age.
Asked ‘what brings him in this diving world’, he said, ‘it was simply an urge to do new thing and that I was inspired by watching discovery channel programmes.’
He started learning scuba diving from Oceanic Scuba Diving Centre housed in the Saint Martin in 2012 and obtained an international licence from a Thai diving centre in end of the year.
‘I have deep passions for the deep sea. Mysterious sea works on my mind… I cannot ignore her attraction’, Sarwar opened his mind.
According to Sarwar, the aim of taking photograph is to show the bio-diversity of the island in line with its degrading situation.
The beautiful underwater world is being destroyed for various reasons, he added.
He dived so far nearly 100 times.
Sarwar claimed a number of corals were sick and about to die because of sound by mechanized boats, trawlers and speedboats.
Asked about the feeling while diving for photography, he simply confessed - ‘fear and thrill work together during the undersea journey’.
He continues: ‘Sea world is a different place to be discovered. You have to be very much cautious as you may happen to come across any trouble there.’
However, Sarwar is getting ready for his next expedition very soon keeping the viewers waiting to experience the underwater beauty through his photographs.
