4-day textile, garments machinery fair starts in Dhaka today

A total of Tk 22,000 crore was invested in the country’s primary textile sector last year despite the fact that the country faced severe political confrontations in the period, sector leaders said.
At a press briefing on the eve of an international exposition of textile and garments machinery, they said capital machinery for setting up five spinning mills and six weaving mills were imported last year and the units would go for production by the next year.
‘Bangladesh is becoming an attractive destination for the foreign investors and to grab the opportunity we have arranged a four-day international exposition of textile and garments machinery at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital from Wednesday (today), said Jahangir Alamin, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, at the press briefing at the BTMA office in the city.
The BTMA is organising the event ‘The 11th Dhaka International Textile and Garments Machinery Exhibition’ in association with Chan Chao International Co Ltd and Yorkers Trade & Marketing Service Company Ltd.
Finance minister AMA Muhith is expected to inaugurate the exhibition.
‘We want to introduce our entrepreneurs with the latest technology in textile and garment machinery through this exposition,’ the BTMA president said.
He hoped that the exhibition would play the role of better platform of the textile sector as a total of 850 companies from 31 countries will exhibit modern apparel machinery at 1,020 booths.
The countries include Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK and USA.
The Korea Textile Machinery Association is participating in the exposition for the first time, said Jahangir.
The BTMA president said that the exposition had become known as mini international textile machinery exhibition in South Asia and the spot sales of machinery were $175 million in last year.
Bangladesh, being the second largest exporter of the readymade garments in the world, earned $22.5 billion from export of textiles in the 2012-13 financial year.
