Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive rescued 211 people from the Bay of Bengal near Saint Martin's Island Tuesday morning while they were going to Malaysia by two mechanized boats illegally.
They also held two traffickers with the boats, police said, adding 58 of them were Myanmar nationals.
Among the rescued, there were twenty women, seventeen children and 105 Bangladeshi men said Kanu Lal Adhikari, sub-inspector of Saint Martin's police outpost.
Kanu Lal said a team of Coast Guard launched the drive at around 5:00and and rescued the people from the Bay of Bengal.
He said they will be handed over to Ukhia police station.
Two cases were lodged in this regard, he added.
