Shipping minister Shajahan Khan on Wednesday said more public marine academies would be built in the country by both the government and private sector in order to create more trained mariners to meet the global demand.
He also said the process was on to establish four new public marine academies and the government would welcome if the private sector came forward to build such institutions.
He said this at the certificate giving ceremony of United Maritime Academy on its campus in the capital.
The minister handed over certificates to the students of the academy as chief guest.
He also gave away certificates to 22 cadets of the first batch of UMA, who have completed their two-year pre-sea training.
Shipping secretary Syed Manjurul Islam, who was special guest, advised the students to use their potentials to help the country.
Among others, director general of shipping Commodore M Zakiur Rahman Bhuiyan also spoke.
