Leading artistes presented different genres of traditional songs on the concluding day of Chhayanaut’s golden jubilee celebrations programme.
Noted artistes also rendered popular songs and presented dance recitals on Saturday at the auditorium of the organisation in Dhanmondi.
The former students of Chhayanaut also shared their memories at the programme.
Chhayanaut was formed in 1964 to uphold Bangali nationalism in a time when the Pakistani regime tried to infuse Arabic and Urdu culture.
The concluding day’s programme began with a chorus presentation of Tagore song Sobare Kori Ahoban by the Chhayanaut artistes. Subsequently they presented a baul song titled Manush Bhojle Sonar Manush Hobi.
The crowd was also delighted when they listened to the folk numbers like Gorte Moder Sonar Bangla and Ei Je Duniya Kiser O Lagiya performed in chorus by the artistes of Folk Department of Chhayanaut.
The programme also included colourful dance recitals presented by noted dancers of the country. Warda Rihab presented a manipuri dance in solo performance, Karna Kamolika presented the beauty of Bharatnatyam dance and Farhana Ahmed along with Sonia Rashid presented a duet performance of manupuri dance all which brought colour to the programme.
Tagore singer Fahim Hossain Chowdhury soulfully presented Aayre Mora Fasol Kati in a solo performance at the programme. Biman Chandra Biswas and Nazmul Hasan Tuhin received audience acclamation for their spontaneous presentation of folk numbers Tui Jodi Amar Hoiti Rey and Khachar Bhitor Thake Pakhi respectively.
Besides, noted Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil, also the general secretary of Chhayanaut, eminent dancer Laila Hasan, former student and presently a teacher of Chhayanaut Narayan Chandra Sil, and others shared their happy moments with Chhayanaut in their speech at the programme.
Auditorium full of audience enjoyed the show. Shaon Rahman, a college student, came to experience the programme. ‘It was an enjoyable show with music, dance and discussion,’ Rahman told New Age.
The show was nice but it would have been even delighting if it included few group dance recitals,’ Shoumi Ahemd, a private service holder, told New Age.
