Voting rights to be restored ousting govt, says BNP

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday observed the 78th anniversary of birth of its founder, the late president Ziaur Rahman, with a renewed pledge to ‘restore the voting right of people through ousting the government.’
The BNP and different socio-cultural organisations paid tribute to Zia by holding elaborate programmes.
‘We have vowed to restore the voting right of people oust the government, which has adhered to power staging a farce in the name of election,’ acting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters after accompanying BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in placing wreaths at the grave of Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Fakhrul said that the BNP pledged to ensure people’s voting rights by freeing democracy through movement.
After placing wreathes, Khaleda and other leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies offered fateha at Zia’s grave and took part in a milad-mahfil for the salvation of the departed soul of Zia.
BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman, party chairperson’s adviser Osman Faurque, vice-chairman Altaf Hossain, among others, were present on the occasion.
Later, associate organisations of the BNP placed wreaths at the grave of their party founder.
National flag and party flag were hoisted at the party offices across the county in the morning.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh and Zia Sangskritik Sangstha organised a blood donation campaign at the graveside of Ziaur Rahman.
A free medical camp was organised at the BNP headquarters at Naya Paltan in the afternoon.
