PM pays homage to martyred soldiers

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Bangladesh Armed Forces by placing a wreath at the altar of Shikha Anirban (flame eternal) in Dhaka Cantonment Thursday morning.
After laying the wreath, Sheikh Hasina stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyred soldiers who laid down their lives for the country’s independence in 1971.
Later, the prime minister was given an inter-service guard of hounour. She also signed the visitor’s book on the premises of Shikha Anirban, an ISPR press release said.
On her arrival at the Shikha Anirban, Sheikh Hasina was received by PM’s Security Adviser major general (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, chief of army staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, chief of naval staff Vice-Admiral M Farid Habib, chief of air staff Air Marshal Muhammad Inamul Bari and principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Haque.
Later, the prime minister had her office at the Armed Forces Division.
The chiefs of three services later called on her.
Earlier on her arrival at the AFD, Sheikh Hasina was received by the PSO, the release added.
