PM pays homage to Liberation War martyrsNew Age Online
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday morning paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing a wreath at the National Mausoleum on the occasion of the assumption of office by the Awami League-led government for the second consecutive term, reports UNB.
After laying the wreaths, the PM stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of the country’s independence in 1971.
The bugle played the last post, while a smartly-turned out contingent drawn from three services presented a state salute on the occasion.
Flanked by ministers, advisers to the PM, state ministers and senior party leaders, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed another wreath at the altar of the National Memorial to pay homage to the martyrs.
Later, the Prime minister signed the visitor’s book kept on the National Mausoleum premises.
Earlier, on her arrival at the National Mausoleum, the PM was received by Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, the chiefs of the three services, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division and the GOC of 9 Division of Bangladesh Army and Dhaka divisional commissioner.
