Opening batsman Shamsur Rahman cracked a superb double-century on Monday to take up his case with the selectors who are in desperate need of a suitable partner for Tamim Iqbal.
Shamsur was in marauding mood as he struck an unbeaten 229 for Walton Central Zone against Islami Bank East Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League at BKSP, where chief selector Faruk Ahmed was in attendance.
‘I cannot explain the feeling in words,’ Shamsur told reporters after his marathon knock.
‘It was the best innings of my life so far. Actually I tried to play a long innings and wanted to stay at the wicket for as long as possible,’ said the right-hander, who will resume his innings today after a four-hour, 13-minute vigil in the middle on Monday.
Shamsur faced 260 balls and hit 24 boundaries and seven sixes. The 25-year-old hard-hitting batsman refused to rest on his laurels and said that he will look to prolong his innings when he comes out to bat today.
‘I want to score 250 and then set my eyes further. You cannot reach the top of tree in just one jump rather you need to climb it step by step. I prefer it that way,’ he said.
Meanwhile, BCB North Zone all-rounder Forhad Reza was also among the runs as he smashed a run-a-ball 153 against Prime Bank South Zone on Monday after resuming on his overnight score of 76.
Forhad also expressed his hope of making a comeback to the national side.
‘I performed well in the last Dhaka Premier League and even in the Twenty20 format,’ the 27-year old told reporters.
‘My job is to perform and the rest depends on the selectors. It felt good to score the century though,’ he said.
Despite being on the receiving end when Nasir Hossain was run out after making 99 on Sunday, Forhad went on to complete his century. Forhad though did not forget the run-out mix-up that easily.
