Prime minister Sheikh Hasina Monday paid homage to the country's founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi 32, a day after she was sworn-in as the second consecutive and third-time prime minister of the country, UNB reported.
Sheikh Hasina first placed a wreath as the prime minister at the portrait of the country's founding president at Bangabandhu Memorial premises at about 9:15 am. She stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the great leader.
Ministers, advisers, state ministers and deputy ministers of the newly formed government were present.
Later, flanked by senior leaders of Awami League, Sheikh Hasina as president of the party placed another wreath at the portrait of the country's founding president.
Senior leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies including Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Begum Matia Chowdhury, Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Mohammad Nasim, Advocate Shahara Khatun and Engr Mosharraf Hossain were, among others, present.
Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of the country's founding president, was also present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina was sworn-in as the prime minister of the new government at Bangabhaban by the president Sunday after massive victory of the Awami League in the 10th parliamentary elections held on January 5 amid boycott by BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Ministers Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Mujibul Haque, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Advocate Qamrul Islam and Asaduzzaman Noor; state ministers Architect Yeafesh Osman, Meher Afroz Chumki, Bir Bahadur Ushai Singh, Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Shahriar Alam, Junaid Ahmed Polok; and deputy minister Arif Khan Joy were present.
AL leaders Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Ukil, Molla Abu Kaiser and Pankaj Debnath were also present.
