Oppn’s blockade draws poor responseNew Age Online
The opposition alliance’s nationwide nonstop road-rail-waterway blockade which resumed at 6:00am Sunday after a two-day break drew a poor response today, UNB reported.
The protest programme will continue till 6:00am Monday and it will remain postponed until further announcement as per the decision of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
In the capital, Jamaat-e-Islami activists brought out a procession in Maghbazar Wireless Gate area around 8:00am which was dispersed by police.
No major incident of violence was reported from anywhere in the country.
In a statement on Saturday night, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the postponement of the blockade from Monday.
Earlier on Thursday, the opposition combine suspended its countrywide blockade for Friday and Saturday considering public sufferings.
In its last-ditch effort to resist the January-5 ‘one-sided’ polls, the 18-party alliance enforced the nonstop blockade on January 1.
However, the election was held on the scheduled day amid low voter turnout and massive violence that left over 20 people killed.
The 18-party alliance has been on a nonstop movement since the election commission announced the schedule for the 10th parliamentary polls on November 25.
