Two suspects arrested on rape charges in JessoreNew Age Online
Police on Saturday arrested two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on suspicion of violating two Hindu housewives.
Police, however, did not disclose the identities of the detained.
The victims were allegedly violated by the masked miscreants at Rishipara of Hazrail village in Monirampur upazila under Jessore Tuesday night as part of assaults against minority community after one-sided polls on January 5.
The victims family on Friday had lodged two cases in connection with the abused with Monirampur police station, without naming the rapists.
Mir Rezaul Hossain, officer in-charge of Monirampur police station told New Age that two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested by the police on suspicion.
The police took the victims to Jessore Medical College Hospital for medical checkup and then escorted back to their residences Saturday, said police.
Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police in Jessore told New Age that about 7 armed miscreants committed the heinous crime at Rishipara, a cobbler’s cluster of Hazrail village.
‘It was not a gang rape but one man did it with the help of others,’ Reshma added.
The victims and locals told journalists that a group of miscreants numbering to about 7, ‘gang raped’ the two housewives, storming the houses equipped with arms Tuesday night and fled without any resistance.
Additional police were deployed in the village after the incident, the OC added.
