MPs-elect to take oath ThursdayNew Age Online
The MPs-elect of the 10th parliamentary elections will take oath on Thursday, UNB reported.
‘The newly elected MPs will take oath on Thursday,’ Director (Public Relations) of Jatiya Sangsad Joynal Abedin told UNB over phone on Wednesday afternoon.
He, however, did not confirm the exact oath-taking time.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will administer the oath.
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission published the results of the 10th national election through a gazette notification.
The gazette on the election results of 290 constituencies was published this afternoon, an EC official who preferred not to be named told UNB.
A total of 292 candidates have been elected unofficially and the results of 290 were published through the gazette.
However, the results of two winning candidates — Sheikh Afiluddin (Jessore-1) and Monirul Ialm (Jessore-2) — were not be published as the EC issued show-cause notices against them for violation of the election code of conduct.
The commission on Tuesday asked the duo to show causes with 10 days why their candidatures would not be cancelled for violation of the code of conduct in line with the article 91 E of the Representation of the People Order 1972.
Meanwhile, the unofficial results of the election to 8 constituencies out of the country’s 300 have not been announced yet as the re-voting in 392 polling stations of the eight constituencies will be held on January 16.
The eight constituencies are Dinajpur-4, Kurigram-4, Gaibandha-1, 3 and 4, Bogra-7, Jessore-5 and Lakshmipur-1.
Of the 292 constituencies, ruling Awami League won 232 parliamentary seats, while HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party won 33 seats, Workers Party six, Jasad five, Jatiya Party-JP one, Tarikat Federation one, BNF one and independent candidates won 13 seats.
The voting was held in 147 constituencies on January 5 as the rest 153 constituencies went uncontested in the 10th parliamentary elections.
According to the article 148 (2A) of the Constitution, the newly elected members of parliament will be obliged to take oath within three days after the publication through official gazette of election results, or else their memberships will cease to exit.
