Expat killed in NY, suspect heldNew Age Online
A Bangladeshi expatriate businessman has been murdered in New York City’s Brooklyn-MacDonald Church area.
Police have arrested another Bangladeshi on suspicion of being responsible for the homicide, reported bdnews24.com
Mohiuddin Mahmud Dulal, 57, was killed on the basement of the building where he lived around 10pm on Monday.
Police recovered the body at around 9:30am on Tuesday.
Police arrested Russel Siddiqui, 32, who lives in the same apartment, from the airport on Tuesday night, 32 hours after the killing.
Russel was missing since the murder.
Police said Russel wanted to leave USA for Bangladesh with $ 24,000 in cash that police found on him.
Victim Dulal’s younger brother Hanif Mahmud, who lives in the neighbourhood, had earlier said it might be possible to figure out the motive behind the killing with Russel's arrest.
Dulal had gone to the USA in 1992. He was the eldest son of a retired teacher Md Hossain of Kargil Government High School in Chittagong City’s Sandwip Upazila.
He used to live there with his wife and three children in Brooklyn’s Coney Island adjoining 405 West Minster Avenue.
A computer software training institute, ‘People and Tech’ rented the same floor where he ran his business and was finally killed.
Police identified the killer from a surveillance camera at the office.
They are also finding out whether Russel had an accomplice.
Dulal’s Namaj-e-Janaza will be held on MacDonald Avenue on Friday. Then his body will be sent to his ancestral home in Sandwip.
Bangladeshis, shocked by the incident, were seen crowding the house soon after hearing of the murder.
Chittagong Association and other local associations have expressed shock at the death and sympathised with the bereaved family.
