A covered van driver was killed while his helper injured in a petrol bomb attack by miscreants in Feni early Tuesday.
The victim was Shah Alam, 32, son of Shamsul Haque, a resident of Jagatpur village under Sadar Dakkhin upazila in Comilla.
A Dhaka-bound covered van (Dhaka Metro 16-0290) that left Chittagong around 10:00pm Monday came under attack at Hafezia area next to Lemua bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Feni at about 1:00am, said ASM Jahangir Alam, Feni highway police inspector.
Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at the vehicle carrying apparel goods, said Jahangir Alam, adding that the fire soon engulfed the vehicle and the driver lost control. Then it hit a tree.
The duo jumped out the covered van while the driver bled plenty, said Jahangir Alam.
The severely burnt Shah Alam was rushed to Feni Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
The helper Al Amin, 30, was shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a human-hauler driver sustained severe burn injuries when his vehicle came under petrol bomb attack on Monday night at Polytechnic area in the port city.
The injured Mitul, 22, said some miscreants hurled a petrol bomb while he was crossing Polytechnic road at about 11:00pm.
Abdul Hamid, a constable of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital police outpost, said Mitul was admitted to burn unit of CMCH at 11:30pm.
