10 hurt in bomb attack on AL candidate’s programmeStaff Correspondent
At least ten people, including three women, were injured in a bomb attack on an election procession of Awami League candidate Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin in the capital’s Islambagh area on Thursday afternoon.
Some of the victims were supporters of Mohiuddin and the others were pedestrians and three of them— Monir Hossain, 20, Karmul Hasan, 26 and Fazlur Rahman— were in critical condition.
The victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately.
The Chwakbazar police officer-in-charge, Md Azizul Haque, suspected that the bombs might have been hurled from the roof of a nearby building.
Chwakbazar police subinspector Md Mahmudur Rahman said that Mohiuddin, the AL nominated candidate of Dhaka-7 constituency, arranged an election rally at the Islambagh Eidgah in the afternoon but he left the place after addressing the gathering and his supporters brought out an election procession in the area.
Suddenly, miscreants hurled 3/4 hand bombs at the procession, leaving at least 10 people injured, the SI said.
A victim, 12-year-old school by Eyad Hossain said that he received injuries while returning home from mosque after Asar prayer.
The police could not arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
AL candidate Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin could not be reached over phone for his comments.
