Govt pushing country towards civil war: BNPNew Age Online
Accusing the government of pushing the country towards a civil war through holding a voter-less election, opposition BNP on Thursday renewed its call for a compromise cancelling the ‘farcical’ polls, UNB reported.
‘People have no interest in the January-5 farcical election. The international community has also showed their unwillingness in it. Even then, the prime minister is not giving up her stubbornness,’ said senior BNP leader Osman Farroque.
He came up with the allegation at a press conference at his Gulshan residence about the opposition’s second day of non-stop nationwide blockade.
The press conference was held at the BNP leader’s residence as the law enforcers reportedly kept the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office and chairperson’s Gulshan office under siege.
Farroque, also an adviser to the BNP chairperson, said, ‘We want to tell the prime minister that you please stop the January-5 elections. There’s still time, take steps for meaningful talks for holding inclusive polls.’
He claimed that people will neither accept the January-5 election nor will go to polling stations to cast their votes in the unilateral polls.
Criticising the government for what he said its growing repressive acts, the BNP leader said the current regime turned blind and deaf due to the illusion of state power.
He urged the government to come to the path of negotiation shunning obstinacy for the sake of the country and its democracy.
Farroque alleged that the prime minster and other ministers are making mockery in the name of electioneering by wasting public money.
