Empowerment of women through ICT

IN THE category of e-women and empowerment, the adolescent development programme under the BRAC education programme along with the British Council achieved this year’s Manthan Award. The topic of this year’s contest was ‘Connecting People for Access and Empowerment.’
Girls of 45 Kishori Clubs in Manikganj and Tangail are learning English through ICT under the English and ICT of the adolescents’ project.
It is found that there are a lot of projects working near Dhaka, e.g. Tangail, Manikganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Narsingdi. Even only the easily accessible villages are considered for taking projects which should be avoided. And districts far away from Dhaka should also be considered.
BRAC, the largest NGOs in the world, along with around 2,200 NGOs have been working for the development of women in Bangladesh for years now, as have many government organisations. Various projects in the same NGOs have also been working for the development of women for long.
But violence against women and girls has increased dramatically in society and the magnitude of the violence is inconsiderable that is evidenced in the daily printing and electronic media.
