Nasir relishing captaincy roleStaff Correspondent
Bangladesh batsman Nasir Hossain on Tuesday said that he was enjoying the captaincy role given to him for the three-match Twenty20 Challenge series starting from today.
Nasir will lead the Bangladesh A side against the national team at Mirpur and will try to fulfil the responsibility placed upon him.
‘I was a captain in the [Dhaka] Premier League [with Victoria]. I was a captain for the Under-15 national side. I was also a captain for the national U-13 side. I enjoy captaincy. I am feeling well since I was never the captain [for the A side] and I will come up against the national team,’ Nasir told reporters at Mirpur.
‘I’m not thinking of this as an opportunity for the future; rather I am trying to fulfil the responsibility given to me. I am not really treating this as an opportunity,’ he said.
The Bangladesh team management arranged this series as a part of the national side’s preparation for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20, scheduled to be held in Bangladesh next year.
Nasir felt the three T20s would work as good preparation for the Bangladesh national team and went on to state that the cricketers would grasp this opportunity to stake a claim for places in the national side with both hands.
‘The three T20s will serve as fine preparation for the upcoming World T20. The more matches the better,’ said Nasir.
‘There are many cricketers in the A side who are knocking at the door of the national side. So every member gives his best at every match.
‘I believe challenge will be there. So we will obviously try to beat the national side,’ he said.
The second and third matches of the series will also take place at Mirpur on Thursday and Saturday.
