Taranco holds meeting with KhaledaNew Age Online
Visiting UN assistant secretary general for political affairs Oscar Fernández Taranco on Monday had another meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and discussed various issues relating to the next general elections, UNB reported.
‘Various issues relating to the election were discussed in the 2nd meeting between the UN envoy and the opposition leader,’ said BNP vice-chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the BNP leader also said the process of the discussion is on and it will continue.
Shamser Mobin, however, declined to elaborate the outcomes of the one-hour meeting held in the evening.
UN Bangladesh resident coordinator Neal Walker, BNP standing committee member Dr Moyeen Khan, BNP chairperson’s adviser Shabihuddin Ahmad, BNP vice-chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury were, among others, present at the meeting.
Earlier, on December 7, Taranco had another meeting with the opposition leader at her Gulshan residence.
Taranco arrived here on Friday amid the country’s murky political situation that has cast a shadow on its January-5 general elections.
His visit is aimed at encouraging ‘dialogue and conditions’ conducive to the parliamentary elections, said a statement issued by UN resident coordinator in Dhaka, Neal Walker.
Meanwhile, the UN envoy had a series of meetings with Awami League and BNP leaders apart from the ones with prime minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia and the chief election commissioner in the last three days.
