U-19 match postponed in Chittagong after blast

New Age online

The second youth one-day internationals between West Indies and Bangladesh U-19 teams was postponed for a day after a crude bomb was blasted near the hotel of  visiting team, officials said on Sunday.
The match was supposed to be held today at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Officials said, a crude bomb was blasted at 8:45pm on Saturday near Agrabad hotel, where West Indies U-19 team was residing, leaving the visitors heavily scared.
West Indies U-19 team, who are currently engaged in a seven-match series against their Bangladesh counterpart, refused to play the match and continue the tour following the blast, officials said.
Bangladesh Cricket Board officials held series of meetings in the morning and finally could convince them to continue the tour.
‘We assured them of additional security and they are now convinced,’ said BCB director Akram Khan.  ‘The match will be held tomorrow.’
The players and members of team management were not targeted and were not in any immediate danger as a result of the incident, a statement of West Indies Cricket Board confirmed.
‘The WICB management has been in contact with team manager Altamont Solomon and will continue to receive regular briefings,’ the statement said.
‘The team gathered shortly after the incident and are safe at their team hotel and have been afforded additional security protection.
‘The WICB thanks the BCB and Bangladeshi authorities for their efforts in hosting and providing security for the team
‘The WICB is contacting the parents and guardians of all the players and will provide further updates as necessary,’ it added.
Bangladesh U-19 team lead the series 1-0.
