'Nothing specific discussed'New Age Online
The ruling Awami League has hoped that the visit of UN emissary will be ‘fruitful’.
The party’s general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told journalists after meeting for ninety minutes the UN assistant secretary general Oscar Fernandez-Taranco that they discussed primary issues, reported bdnews24.com
‘Nothing specific we discussed,’ he said adding that there would be two or three more meetings with Taranco during his four-day stay in Dhaka.
Led by Syed Ashraful Islam, Awami League’s advisory council members Tofail Ahmed, Amir Hossain Amu and Gowher Rizvi, joint general secretary Mahbub -Ul-Alam Hanif, international affairs secretary Faruk Khan and AL leader Shahed Reza met Fernandez-Taranco at the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon.
Gowher Rizvi is also the prime minister's advisor on foreign policy issues.
The UN assistant secretary general arrived Dhaka on Friday in what the UN said to encourage political parties for a dialogue to hold the January 5 elections.
Awami League and BNP are at loggerheads over the nature of the poll-time dispensation.
The ruling party installed an 'all-party' interim cabinet that the BNP rejected and stayed away demanding restoration of a non-party government to oversee the national polls.
