Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association urged the political leaders of the major two parties to resolve the political stalemate without spoiling anymore moments.
The apparel factory owners’ association on Saturday also raised five-point demands during a human chain protest that included keeping apparel business out of political activities’ purview.
‘You are engaged in politics while we keep the wheels of the economy running. Please, keep our clothing sector out of all political programmes purview for the greater interest of the nation,’ Atiqul Islam, BGMEA president urged.
He made the appeal during a human chain protest programme that was held in front of the BGMEA building, in the capital, this morning.
Atiqul also urged the concerned authorities to keep out the busy Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, from any interference, such as hartals and blockades, in a bid to run the import and export activities smoothly.
The other major demands include: Introduction of a law to protect the apparel industry, bringing to book the culprits of Standard Group factory arson and holding summary trials for the criminals involved in sabotages.
