Accident on Bangabandhu Bridge, 3 critically injuredNew Age Online
In a rare accident on the longest Bangabandhu Bridge, 4 buses and two micro buses rammed into a double-deck bus from behind as the two-deck bus got both of its rear wheels flattened, leaving 3 critically injured and 50 seriously Monday, police said.
The unusual accident took place at 8 in the evening on the bridge's 19th span at the Sirajganj end, creating a severe tailback on the south end of the bridge.
The double-deck bus was rented and destined for a northern district.
The identities of the critically injured could not be known, a doctor at the Sadar Sirajganj hospital, said.
Mujahid Uddin, a maintenance officer and traffic manager of the Bangabandhu Bridge, said, traffic movement was turning to normalcy, slowly, at 10 pm.
The ill-fated buses and micro-buses were being towed by policemen and bridge authorities immediate before 10pm, Officer in charge of West police station of Bangabandhu Bridge, Aminul Islam, told New Age.
At least 50 more injured passengers received treatment in Tangail hospitals and clinics.
Those four buses were rented by Standard Group (apparel company) and were transporting apparel workers to Kajipur upazila under Sirajganj district.
