The chief justice, Md Muzammel Hossain, administered the oath of office of 10 High Court judges on Monday, a day after they were appointed as regular judges.
The president, Md Abdul Hamid, on Sunday appointed the 10 High Court judges prior to completion of their two-year tenure as additional judges. The 10 judges had sworn in office as additional High Court judges on October 20, 2011.
Justice SH Md Nurul Huda Jaigirdar, Justice KM Kamrul Kader, Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, Justice Mohammad Ullah, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, Justice AKM Shahidul Huq, Justice Shahidul Karim, Justice Md Jahangir Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman sworn-in office at the Supreme Court auditorium in the former Roads and Highways buildings in the morning, Supreme Court registrar AKM Shamsul Islam told New Age.
With the new appointments, the number of High Court judges reached at 91 —83 regular and eight additional judges. Six of the High Court judges are now posted at the International Crimes Tribunals dealing with war crimes cases at the two International Crimes Tribunals.
The Awami League-led government has so far appointed 10 judges to the Appellate Division and 63 judges to the High Court Division, said sources in the law ministry.
