A prosecution witness Sunday said he had seen a bullet-hit youth in 1971 and later came to know that the young man had died.
The witness, Chamon Sikandar Julkernine, told the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that the youth had been groaning and had wanted some water to drink.
The 11th prosecution witness testified against war crimes accused Mobarak Hossain on Sunday.
The witness told the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that Razakar Bahini men led by their commander Mobarak had killed a youth aged 18 or 20 years in late October 1971 at Purulia Bridge, located outskirts Brahminbaria town.
The witness said that in late October, 1971 he along with 22 or 23 of his classmates led by their class teacher Abdur Rouf went to the Anandamayee Kalibari temple and saw a signboard reading Razakar Manjil.
The witness said that they found a bullet hit youth of 18 or 20 years, had been groaning and wanting water in the Razakar Manjil.
Now the superintendent of Barhminbaria Industrial School, Chamon said that 3 or 4 military-dressed Razakar Bahini men had taken some water to him and asked him to say ‘Pakistan-Jindabad.’ The morally strong man denied to chant that slogan and was deprived of quenching his thirst before dying.
As the youth denied the Razakars told him to drink his urine, the witness said, adding that they left the place as they could no more take the brutal scene.
The youth could not be seen there after 3 or 4 days and that he came to know that the Razakar Bahini men led Mobarak had killed the youth at Purulia Bridge.
Later, while facing cross-examination by Mobarak’s defence lawyer Ahsanul Huq Hena, the witness said, some men of a specific political party came to his office on September 24, assaulted him and threatened him on the ground that he had earlier appeared before the tribunal and testified against the accused.
As his cross-examination ended, the tribunal adjourned the proceedings until October 6 when the investigation officer of the case would be examined.
Earlier in the morning, the tribunal in its own motion deferred the date of framing charges against absconding Faridpur BNP leader and Nagarkanda municipality mayor, Zahid Hossain Khokon, to October 9.
