ATTACK ON CBP RALLY IN SYLHET

Leaders of left-leaning political parties and socio-cultural activists in Sylhet Monday night demanded immediate arrest of the attackers on the rally of Communist Party Bangladesh and Bangladesh Samajtrantrik Dal on September 15.
They made the call from a torch-procession brought out in the city under the banner of Santras Pratirodh Mancha, a social platform to resist terrorism.
The procession began in front of the Sarada Smriti Bhaban premises at Chadnighat and ended in front of the Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta after parading different main roads in the city.
The platform’s Sylhet unit convener and Ganatantri Party district president Barrister Arash Ali, its member secretary and district bar association former president Emadullah Shahidul Islam, CPB district president Bedananda Bhattacharya and general secretary Anwar Hossain Suman and Jatiya Samajtrantik Dal district general secretary Lokman Ahmad, among others, participated in the programme, sources in the organisers said.
Leaders and activists of Juba League and Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League backed youth and student organisations, attacked a rally of CPB and BSD at Court Point in the city on September 15, leaving injured at least 30 people including CPB president Muzahidul Islam Selim.
A case was filed with the Kotwali police accusing 68 Juba League and Chhatra League leaders and activists including district CL acting president Hiran Mahmud Nipu, but none of them was arrested till Tuesday, nine days after the incident.
