Kuddus Bayati performs at ShilpakalaCultural Correspondent
Folk singer Kuddus Bayati and his troupe entertained a huge crowd on Monday evening at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy presenting some evergreen traditional songs of the Northeast region of the country.
The programme was a part of the ongoing five-day fair featuring handicrafts of the four countries of SAARC.
Bayati’s high pitched voice modulation, brilliant skill of expressing the emotion of the lyrics through gesture and movement and his wonderful ability of enacting roles of the ballads in live concert wooed the audience.
Kuddus Bayati presented a few very popular folk numbers along with some portions of palas accompanied by his team members playing different folk instruments including dhol, banshi, dotara and making a show melodious trait that entertained the gathering.
Bayati presented the very popular traditional number Shah Abdul Karim’s Gram-er Naojowan that was synchronised with his signature dance steps and facial gestures. The audience could feel the spirit within the composition and the strength of the lyric of the song while it was presented by Bayati in his powerful yet melodious voice.
A song that brought huge popularity to the Bayati Ei din din noy arro din acche was also presented at the programme. The song, which was written by legendary author Humayun Ahmed and composed and rendered by the Bayati for an awareness increase commercial in 1992, pleased the listeners with its appealing symphony.
Kuddus Bayati also gave soulful presentation of some very well-liked numbers including Amar pagla ghora rey, Ki sondor maiya, Tui jodi amar hoitiri, and others.
Bayati also presented parts of some pala, which are traditional folk ballads of the north-western region of the country. His presentation, of a part from a pala featuring the divine love between Radha and Kirshna with his wonderful ability of transforming from one character to another, enthralled the audience.
