Bowlers rule the roostStaff Correspondent
Prime Doleshwar SC’s bowlers embarrassed Sheikh Jamal DC while Kalabagan CA’s balanced attack stifled Khelaghar SKS, as both units bowled their respective opponents out cheaply to set their teams up for victory in the Dhaka Premier League on Sunday.
Prime Doleshwar SC v
Sheikh Jamal DC
Prime Doleshwar’s bowlers, led by Taijul Islam, ripped through the Sheikh Jamal line-up on Sunday, dismissing them for 93 runs en-route to a seven-wicket victory in their 46-over match at Fatullah.
Prime Doleshwar put Sheikh Jamal in to bat and struck in the very first over when Hasantha Fernando trapped Dilshan Munaweera leg-before.
Junaid Siddique (26) and Jaharul Islam (25) then combined to put on 56 for the 2nd wicket before the Taijul show began and the next nine wickets fell for 33 runs.
Man of the match Taijul finished with six wickets for 19, while Fernando (2/29) and Sohag Gazi (2/16) picked up two apiece as Sheikh Jamal were bundled out in 29 overs.
Prime Doleshwar overhauled the target in just 22.3 overs, with Mominul Haque (37) and Roshane Silva (17) steering them to 94/3 after three early wickets. Abdur Razzak picked up two wickets for Sheikh Jamal.
The victory gives Prime Doleshwar four points from three games and moves them into a tie with Sheikh Jamal and three other teams for second place in the league behind leaders Mohammedan SC, who also won on Sunday.
Kalabagan Cricket Academy v Khelaghar SKS
Kalabagan CA used seven bowlers to dismiss Khelaghar SKS for 162 before a half-century from captain Marshall Ayub set them on their way to a three-wicket win at BKSP-3 on Sunday.
Khelagar won the toss and elected to bat first at a ground that has been criticised for deteriorating in the second innings and has already produced some poor scores from teams batting second in the DPL.
They were met by a balanced Kalabagan attack, which took wickets early and often to restrict the scoring rate and bowl Khelaghar out in the 49th over for just 162.
Hamilton Masakadza, Sikandar Raza and Nazmul Apu took two wickets apiece, while Talha Jubayer, Dewan Sabbir and Maksudul Hasan struck once each. Sharif Ullah went wicket-less but conceded just 20 runs in eight overs.
Mosaddek Iftekhar and captain Faisal Hossain led Khelaghar with 34 runs each.
Faisal then took five wickets for 23 to give Khelaghar a chance of defending its total, but Marhsall Ayub scored 63 off 104 balls to anchor the Kalabagan innings and ensure that his opposite number’s man of the match award came in a losing cause.
Kalabagan reached 164/7 with 14 balls remaining to pick up their first win of the season and send Khelagar to their third straight loss to open the campaign.
