HC sets Sept 26 to hear rule on Hasina-Khaleda dialogueNew Age Online
The High Court on Sunday set September 26 to hold final hearing on the writ petition for which a rule was issued earlier asking Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia to explain why they would not be directed to sit for a dialogue on the mode of election-time government.
A bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed set the date as Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond, who filed the writ petition for the dialogue, prayed for expeditious disposal of the matter, which the petitioner termed as ‘urgent’.
On March 27, the High Court issued a rule on Awami League President and BNP Chairperson to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to sit for a dialogue to resolve the ongoing political standoff over the next general elections.
Issuing the rule order, the bench of Justice Md Nizamul Huq and Justice Zafar Ahmed asked the home secretary to explain why he should not be directed to take necessary steps to stop violence like bomb blasts, arson and vandalising vehicles during political programmes.
Neither the Awami League nor the BNP replied to the rule, said the petitioner. The home secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed also ignored the ruling.
