Ultra-left party leader killed in ‘crossfire’New Age Online
A regional leader of ultra-left party Gana Mukti Fouz was killed in an ‘encounter’ with law enforcers at Khoksha upazila of Kushtia early Sunday, the police said.
The deceased was Fazlur Rahman Fazu, 35, son of Faizuddin of Joduboira village under Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.
He was Kushtia regional chief of Gana Mukti Fauz, police added.
Police also said Fazu and his fellows were holding a meeting near the Uthuli Bridge at about 4:00 am. On information, police rushed to the spot.
Officer-in-charge of Khoksha police station Kharendranath Sarker claimed, sensing their presence, the outlaws opened fire at the law enforcers prompting them to return fire, triggering an encounter.
Police recovered two pistols, one LG gun and five rounds of bullet from the spot.
The dead body was taken to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for autopsy, police official added.
At least 12 criminal cases had been filed against Fazu including murder, abduction and extortion, he further said.
He was the prime accused in the killing of Khoksha union parishad chairman Nurul Islam, Kharendranath said.
