SM Mohsin busy acting in filmCultural Correspondent
Seasoned actor SM Mohsin is playing an important character in Murad Parvez’s government grant winning film Brihonolla for which, he says, he is not appearing much on teleplays these days.
SM Mohsin received appreciation and awards acting in diverse characters in teleplays. ‘I like Television because it made me popular among people. Film, on the contrary, was potential medium but unfortunately it didn’t flourish in the country,’ observed Mohsin.
The former director of the theatre and film department of Shilpakala Academy Mohsin regrets for not taking acting as profession earlier. ‘I should have paid more attention on acting only and not teaching or administrative works. Acting was never solely my profession though I should have taken it as my career,’ said Mohsin, who became regular in acting after his retirement.
But, he at the same time claims that his service in the autonomous government agency was meaningful and satisfactory.
‘I am glad that the National Theatre Hall was being built under my supervision during my service days in Shilpakala. Besides, I am satisfied that I helped a lot of artistes to go in other countries and demonstrate their acting genius,’ shared the actor, who also said that it is matter of great enjoyment for him to see young artistes to flourish. ‘I really feel contended whenever I see my Jahangirnagar students are doing well in acting,’ said Mohsin, a part time teacher at the drama and dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University.
The actor, who stepped into theatre while a student of class two, got so engrossed by the passion of acting that he went to India at National Institute of Drama and Pune Film Institute for learning acting. ‘After coming back, I began acted as regular artiste of different troupes like Drama Circle, Theatre and Saat Rang,’ revealed Mohsin. Later he was an acting teacher at Jahangirnagar University for over 20 years and also successfully performed his responsibilities as a director at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
