At least three people including a child died while 30 more went missing as a boat capsized in the River Padma at Hatpara area under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi Saturday afternoon.
The identity of the deceased and missing persons could not be known immediately.
Local people said around 40 passengers were on the boat that capsized because of turbulent waves at about 12:30pm.
The passengers, who hailed from Char Ashardiar, Char Mazardiar and others part of Godagari upazila, were going to the char areas.
At least five of the passengers were rescued by a passing boat while 30 others remained missing till the filing of this report at 6:00pm.
Abu Mokaddem, officer-in-charge of Godagari police told New Age the law enforcers, along with fire service and civil defence men, continued their search to find the missing persons.
