Continuation of power needed to build modern Bangladesh, says JoyStaff Correspondent
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, on Friday sought vote for Awami League stressing the need for continuation of a government to help building a modern Bangladesh.
Addressing an interactive programme on ‘Vision 2021: Achievements of the past five years and manifestos for the next five years’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Joy said that despite multifarious adversities the AL-led government could meet most of its pledges made before the 2008 elections.
‘The development works accomplished by the AL-led government in the last five years is unprecedented. We have already achieved half of the vision 2021 implementation,’ he said.
Joy said that the government had already introduced 3G mobile technology and would introduce 4G technology if the Awami League was voted again to power.
He termed Bangladesh a ‘rising star’ and said that the AL-led pro-liberation force was working relentlessly to build a prestigious nation.
The grandson of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said that the present government steered the country towards the peak of its development, but if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party came to power the country would be pushed back again.
‘The wheel of development will stop. We have increased the generation of power, but it will be reduced and the people will start experiencing acute load-shedding within next couple of years if BNP comes to power,’ he added.
Joy said that BNP wanted to come to power by spreading false propaganda.
‘The terrorists are now standing in the queue and if BNP comes to power, they would again establish reign of terror in the country,’ he said.
Suchinta Foundation organised the programme attended by economist Abul Barakat, musician Maksudul Haque and cricketer Sakib Al Hasan. Mohammad A Arafat moderated the programme.
