I heard of Babar’s involvement from Gulzar: former RAB officialNew Age Online
A speedy court trying the 21 August Grenade Attack cases on Wednesday completed hearing the testimony of prosecution witness Atikur Rahman, and adjourned further proceedings till September 15.
The speedy trial tribunal-1 judge Shahed Nuruddin presided over the proceedings and set the next date in consultation with both defence and prosecution, in the court set up near Central Jail in the capital.
Atikur, the then Rapid Action Battalion deputy director intelligence wing, made the statement in his deposition as the 72nd prosecution witness on August 20.
The court had taken testimony of the accused on different working days.
A defence counsel on Tuesday told the court that Atikur had not told the authorities about the involvement of former state minister Lutfozzaman Babar since he had been informed as such by former RAB official, the late Colonel Gulzar Uddin Ahmed.
The defence counsel, Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar who stood for Babar among others, told the court that the prosecution witness Atikur Rahman had made his statement before the magistrate and investigating officer in February 2011 naming Babar, about two years after the death of Colonel Gulzar Uddin in the BDR mutiny of February 2009.
Atikur Rahman had told the court that he came to know of Babar’s involvement from Gulzar that when Gulzar had approached Babar about the arrest of accused Mufti Abdul Hannan, then the state minister for law, Babar, kept mum.
