A four-day exhibition showcases eye dazzlingly, colourful kites from 15 Asian countries at the National Art Plaza at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The private organization Dhakabashi and the academy jointly organised the exhibition titled ‘Asian Kite Exhibition’ where 150 kites from Bangladesh, South Korea, India, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Bhutan, Dubai, Turkey, Singapore, Nepal and Sri-Lanka.
The kites bearing the national symbols of their respective countries demonstrated the culture and tradition of the country. The moon and star of Malaysia, a lion with a sword of Sri-Lanka, the wheel of India, the red sun in the Japanese flag, and other symbols reveal the origin country of the floating kites.
Made in South Korea, the Korean kite resembles a falcon flying with its wings spread out. The feather, eyes, sharp talons, the pointed beak and all other features of the falcon are very detailed that people may mistake it to be a real flying falcon.
A Chinese martial artist with a sword in his hand can be seen as one of the Chinese kites that stood out from the rest of the kites. Another Chinese kite seen up in the sky was an enormous triangular red kite with a long, green trail that attracted the viewers’ eyes.
The president of Dhakabasi informed New Age that some of the kites have been collected by privately by the members of the organisation while others were given by their respective embassies.
Visitors especially children are visiting the exhibition every day. ‘I don’t fly kites as I don’t have the space to do so but I like to see kites flying. I really enjoyed the exhibition as it showed me different shapes of kites that I never any idea before,’ said Saimur Rahman, a class three student, who came at the exhibition with his father. Inaugurated on September 7, the exhibition will remain open for all till 5:00pm today.
