Include cattle in trading on border haats
In recent years, a few haats (small markets) on the Bangladesh-India border have been introduced for the convenience of people living in the border areas. Recently, the limit of purchase amount per person has been enhanced, which, however, needs to be increased further to have the intended benefit for the people there.
Bangladesh needs hundreds of thousands of sacrificial animals like cow, ox, bull, sheep and goat, especially on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. On the other hand, India breeds more cows, bulls, oxen and sheep than its domestic demand.
The people of India who rear cattle need market to sell them. Inclusion of cattle for sale on border haats will be beneficial to both Bangladeshi and Indian people. It will be a win-win situation for both countries.
