Tamim made BU captainStaff Correspondent
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was made captain of the new-look Brothers Union as the club announced his name during the inauguration ceremony of the Brothers Union Club Limited on Saturday.
Tamim looked happy to be included in the set-up and believed that his side can go miles in the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League considering the strength of their local players.
‘I have a good relationship with Brothers Union as I have played for this club in my childhood in Chittagong,’ Tamim told reporters at the club premises.
‘I would like to give my hundred percent for the club and try to take this club to new heights.
‘We have a good combination of local players though luck plays a big part in cricket,’ he added.
Tamim also joined hands with all-rounder Sakib al Hasan and national skipper Mushfiqur Rahim in criticising the newly-introduced players system, though he preferred Brothers as his second option.
‘I hope that there will be the old players’ recruitment system from next season where we can choose any club we want,’ said Tamim.
‘I would have either played for Brothers Union or Gazi Tank Cricketers if the old player recruitment system was followed this season,’ he added.
Brothers Union’s cricket committee chairman AZM Nasir said they would not put pressure on the players for the championship but would like to see hundred per cent commitment from them.
‘We will never give any pressure to the team and they will play freely and if they don’t achieve the target after giving their hundred per cent we won’t complain,’ said Nasir.
‘Brothers Union have become a limited company from today,’ he added.
