Bulbul Ahmed’s birth anniversary celebrated at BSACultural Correspondent
Friends and family members of Bulbul Ahmed remembered the iconic film actor on his 72nd birth anniversary on Wednesday at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The programme organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also featured the screening of Devdas directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. Acting the titular of the film based on Sharat Chandra’s novel, Bulbul Ahmed earned huge fame and popularity.
Bulbul Ahmed’s widow Daisy Ahmed thanked all for arranging a programme to commemorate Bulbul Ahmed.
‘Bulbul Ahmed was a people person and a passionate film-personality. He was a loving husband, a caring family member and a steadfast actor’, said Daisy Ahmed who could not fight back tears while speaking.
Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali lucky, who presided over the programme, remembered Bulbul Ahmed as one of the finest actors and personalities in the country’s cultural arena.
‘He will continue to inspire us always’, said Lucky, who also promised that the Academy will regularly arrange programmes from now on to remember the esteemed cultural personalities of the country.
Born in 1941, Bulbul Ahmed began his acting career through theatre in 1957 when he acted in Rabindranath Tagore’s Shesh Rokkha for MC College in Sylhet. Later on, he joined the theatre troupe Drama Circle and performed in plays such as Oedipus and The Arms and the Man.
He joined television in 1968. His first appearance in film was in 1973 when he played a supporting character in Iye Korey Biye. Soon he appeared in a central role in the film Jibon Niye Jua. Bulbul Ahmed earned popularity for playing key roles in films like Devdas, Simana Periye, Shurjo Konya, Rupali Shoikotey, Bodhu Bidaay and Bodnaam. He also directed four movies--Rajlakkhi Srikanta, Akorshon, Gorom Haowa and Koto Je Apon.
