The authorities of Comilla University have issued a moratorium on rallies, processions and other political activities at the campus sine die, effective from Tuesday morning.
The ban came as Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) campus unit called a rally on campus on separate issues, Tuesday at 10:00am.
Proctor AKM Raihan Uddin told New Age that the university authorities imposed the ban to avert any untoward incident on the campus, centering the rallies.
The authorities had sent letters to the district police super and Kotbari police outpost regarding this, Monday night.
‘The restriction came into effect 6:00am Tuesday and will continue till further order from the authorities,’ the proctor said.
JCD, the student wing of BNP, called the rally to mark the sixth ‘release from jail’ day of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
Tarique was released on parole from jail on September 3, 2008. He was arrested on March, 2007 during the tenure of the army-backed caretaker government.
On the other hand, BCL, student wing of ruling Awami League, called the rally protesting the recent attack on Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Rajshahi University unit general secretary Touhid-al-Tuhin.
