The education ministry Monday formed a two-member inquiry commission to probe into the allegations brought against the Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor, Anwar Hossain, by a section of teachers.
‘The ministry has set up an inquiry commission today, following an order by President and Chancellor Abdul Hamid,’ said Subodh Chandra Dhali, a senior information officer of the education ministry.
The University Grants Commission member Muhibur Rahman has been made the convener while a joint secretary of the ministry, Ahsanul Jabbar, the other member of the inquiry commission, Subodh said.
The commission is expected to submit its report in 15 working days.
Academic classes, meanwhile, resumed at the JU on August 25 after an unscheduled closure of four days when a group of teachers teamed under a banner of ‘General Teachers’ Forum’ had confined Anwar to his office demanding his resignation.
The demonstrating teachers called off their siege programme for 15 days after a meeting with the education minister on August 24. Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid assured the teachers of looking into their demand after an investigation.
