Light and sound show features 400-year history of DhakaCultural Correspondent
The 400 years of history of vigour and courage of Dhaka had been presented in a light and sound show held on Monday at the Lalbagh Fort in the Old Dhaka.
It was the trial show of the event, which is expected to be held regularly from the middle of next month.
Through the spectacular light effects and relevant sound projections, the show features the history from the period when the palace fortress was constructed in the 17th century on the bank of the Buriganga river in Dhaka by the Mughal Subahdar Muhammad Azam Shah, following the declaration of the then Jahangirnagar, now Dhaka, as the capital of Bengal.
Eminent poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haque’s script narrated not only the construction process of the historical monument but also featured heritage, culture and history of wars and struggles till Dhaka emerged as the capital of independent Bangladesh through the war of independence in 1971.
Eminent actors Asaduzzaman Noor MP and Shimul Yousuf narrated the whole history.
Department of archeology, under the ministry of cultural affairs, initiated the project.
Cultural affairs minister Abul Kalam Azad, culture secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas, local lawmaker Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, historian-professor Mubin Chowdhury, professor Muntasir Mamoon, Sharifuddin Ahmed, director general of archeology department Shirin Aktar among others were present at the trial show.
