SC stops bail of a money laundering accusedNew Age Online
The Appellate Division on Tuesday stayed for two months a High Court order on granting an interim bail to Islam Trading International's Shafiqul Islam Palash, who was accused of helping Destiny in laundering money abroad.
The Appellate Division vacation judge, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique also directed Palash to surrender before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Court in two weeks.
Palash was released from jail a day after a High Court vacation bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain on August 12 granted him bail.
The Appellate Division stayed the bail after hearing an appeal filed by the government seeking a stay order on Palash's bail.
Attorney general Mahbubey Alam appeared for the state while Khurshid Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission.
On July 31, 2012, the ACC filed two cases against 22 Destiny officials over transfer of Tk 3,285.26 crore in investors’ money to their personal accounts.
