People to resist polls under party govt: FakhrulStaff Correspondent . Mitul
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has said people would resist the government’s move to hold the coming general election under a partisan government.
Inaugurating a political training workshop of the party at a city hotel on Thursday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that attempts were being made to hold the election under the ruling party which changed the provision of non-party government in the Constitution through its brute majority in parliament.
He said people have not accepted the amendment to the Constitution and they were carrying out movement and building up resistance against elections under the party government.
Fakhrul said the democratic system of the country was on the verge of destruction and alleged that the fascist government has completed all arrangements to strangle democracy.
He said the country was now passing through a critical time. Political instability and uncertainty were prevailing in the country, he said, adding that BNP would have to play a role to overcome this situation.
About 75 central leaders of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, participated in the political workshop. It was the seventh such workshop.
BNP started organising the workshops to impart political training to central and grassroots level leaders since October 2011.
So far, 415 party leaders took the political training on different subjects including democracy, nationalism, history of the country’s Independence War, Constitution, BNP’s 19-point programmes and current politics.
Training affairs secretaries Kazi Aasduzzaman and Kabir Murad conducted the training.
BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dhaka University teacher Mahbubullah, former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Mustahidur Rahman, among others, were scheduled to deliver lectures at the daylong workshop.
The trainee leaders will have to take part in an examination after the training at the workshop today to evaluate their learning.
Meanwhile, opposition chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque, addressing a function at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Thursday, urged Awami League to bring a bill in parliament on non-party government to avoid political confrontation and resolve the political crisis.
