The district administration of Khulna is set to pull down by the next month illegal structures developed on 1.87 acres of land of the Roads and Highways Division.
The land was grabbed by 98 influential people of the city.
The decision was made at a recent meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office with deputy commissioner Mesbahuddin in the chair.
Engineers and officials of the Roads and Highways Division and the Public Works Department were present.
The meeting also decided that notice would be served on the land grabbers by the first week of September and they would be asked to evacuate the government land before the drive by mobile court.
Earlier, Khulna Roads and Highways Division sent a list to the deputy commissioner’s office to take action against 98 local influentials who grabbed 1.87 acres of government land and built structures on them.
A total of 53 local influential people grabbed 0.77 acres of land and constructed different types of commercial tin-shed shops in 2km area from Raligate to Phulbari gate beside Dhaka-Khulna Highway in the city, 29 local influential grabbed 0.24 acres of land and erected tin-shed commercial structures 1km away from the city’s Gallyamari to Dakop upazila in the district and 16 local influential grabbed 0.86 acres of land and erected tin-shed rooms on around 1km area beside Khulna-Satkhira Highway in the district.
Most of the land grabbers are local influential people, leaders of local market committee, said Abdur Rezzak, executive engineer of Khulna Roads and Highways.
‘We launched drive separately and demolished their illegal structures but they grabbed the lands again and again after completion of the operation,’ he said, adding that around 25 cases were now pending with different courts in Khulna in this regard.
Khulna deputy commissioner Mesbahuddin said, ‘We will start the drive against the government land grabbers and demolish their structures by September.’
‘We will serve notices on them (land grabbers) asking them to evacuate the illegal structures before the drive,’ he added.
